Filling Buckets

Connection. Empathy. Compassion. Love.

Allllll the good things. I spend time thinking about how to teach them to Will, how to show up for them daily and practice them inherently in this life. I love seeing the unique ways people connect. How we all compliment each other like pieces to a puzzle.

I was asked to hang out with some littles at an elementary school family night last week. I’ll never give up a chance to explore allll the good things, so I gathered up some art supplies, and threw in a book called “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud. The idea is this;  We all move through our days with an invisible bucket. When full, it holds love, self worth, & connectivity. It empties when another makes a poor choice to hurt, bully, or try to control another. By dipping into another’s bucket, the “bucket dippers” bucket empties too.

We talked kindness together. How it’s a choice. How sometimes it’s hard to choose kindness, but how it always wins. We wrote and decorated letters, put them in an envelope marked “Read Me” and then set off to hide them for strangers, friends & family in the community. Consciously filling buckets together was awesome.

Leave it to the littles to remind you to take a step back and remember what’s important. To the little that hid this note for me;  you filled my bucket to the brim.

Big love,

Annie
